“Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us, happy birthday dear Emmanuel, happy birthday to us!”
Welcome to a celebration of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church’s 125th anniversary!
On school reunion weekend, June 21 & 22, 2014, Emmanuel Presbyterian celebrates 125 years of worship, community, and ministry in Marion, SD. The road has been long for the church. There have been good times and bad. Through it all, though, we have persevered and continue to be a growing, thriving community. Most importantly, even though the people change and the times around us change, one thing remains the same: Jesus Christ is at the center of our collective life of worship and mission.
Please feel free to explore this are of our website. There will be a few things posted here. Articles appearing in the Marion record on June 5, June 12, and June 19, 2014, are reprinted here for your convenience. In fact, they’re up here before they even get to the paper (so if you want to read it in print for the first time, don’t click until after those dates)! Additionally, there are some excerpts from the booklet that we’ll be printing for the occasion. They are:
A brief description of Marion’s Presbyterian Church which predates Emmanuel
A couple of shared memories from organist Carol Nelson
A list of all former pastors, with dates served
Pictures of the church and manse through the years
The short poem, “The Ladies Aid”
A spotlight on our founding members with connections to current members – Buse
A spotlight on our founding members with connections to current members – Wentzel
Hopefully, this is enough to whet your appetite and get you excited about seeing our booklet in print.
If you have been a part of Emmanuel, or if this congregation has touched your life in some way, or if you’d simply like to see what we’re up to on our celebration weekend, please consider stopping by to see us. There will be an open house at the church and the manse next door from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday the 21st. There will be a special worship service at 10:00 on Sunday morning to be followed by a meal ($5 per adult, kids 12 and under eat free; call the church at 648-3876 if you plan on joining us for the meal). Please plan on joining us for as much of this weekend as you are able. We would love to see you there!
